I live in Boston where, in my
personal opinion, the Massachusetts auto insurance industry has gone to hell in a hand basket. I was in an accident recently that was not my fault. My insurance company respectfully disagreed and as a result raised my yearly premium by nearly 50%! What can I do to get my rate back to where I can afford it?

Unfortunately due to the deregulation of the insurance industry as a whole, the best suggestion I can make is to shop around for new Massachusetts auto insurance quotes. My personal experience looking for affordable car insurance has shown me that it pays to shop around. The rates quoted by my local agent for one of the big 5 auto insurance companies were 3 times as high as the quote I got from the internet for the same company, but a different agent. You can get a no-obligation quote from the banner on this page. It’s a good place to start.
You could try to appeal the insurance company’s decision, but that may take longer than you have to put a Massachusetts auto policy in place. I wouldn’t count on a favorable decision. It is in their favor, financially, to deem you at fault therefore collecting higher premiums disguised as at fault surcharges. The Massachusetts auto insurance industry is a corporate environment. That means their purpose is to please the stockholders with a fat bottom line. The customers they insure are only the means to provide that fat bottom line.
